Speeding up or not wearing a seatbelt, can make you a traffic violator and may have serious consequences. To ensure the safety of everyone, there are traffic rules and regulations that need to be followed by all. Issuing a challan is a way to enforce these traffic rules.
A challan is issued to individuals who violate traffic rules. It contains information about the offense committed and the their consequences.
–On-spot challans are issued by the police at the location of the violation,
–e-challans are notified online, with the help of a digital camera.
The violator needs to pay the fine immediately if he/she receives a On-Spot-Challan. However, in case of an e-challan, the violator can either choose to pay the fine online or follow a legal process. But if the Challan is ignored it, there may be legal consequences.
In case of e-challan, the violator may choose to appear in court, both the violator and the officer who issued the challan should be present during the hearing scheduled on a designated date and time.
The court gives judgement based on the evidence only If the violator pleads guilty. If the violator denies violation, he/she needs to provide evidence to support the claim. In this situation, the court will listen to both parties and takes decision based on the evidence available. A mutual agreement can be done between the violator and the officer then the court can dismiss the challan.
The court summons the violator to appear in court on a designated date and time, failing which their driving license might get suspended. Repeated violation may lead to severe punishment, from hefty fines or even jail term.
The e-challan system has been handling traffic violations efficiently. It is directly linked to a central database, it allows an immediate generation of ticket for any traffic violations captured by traffic cameras. A message is immediately sent to the registered owner of the vehicle, informing them of the violation and its corresponding fine.
The vehicle owner can click on the link provided in the notification to access details of the challan and pay the fine online. This not only saves time and effort for both the authorities and the vehicle owners, promoting transparency without any scope of mistake.
